Check Seam Seal in Right Rear Wheel Arch

This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG (DAG), the manufacturer of Mercedes- Benz vehicles, has determined that the seam

seal in the right rear wheel arch may not meet specifications. Dealers will check the seam seal and rework, if necessary, at the next workshop visit

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

^ Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.

^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Approximately 971 vehicles are affected.

Procedure

A. Check Seam Seal in Right Rear Wheel Arch

1. Raise vehicle on 2 post vehicle lift with suspension extended to maximum position.

2. Detach right rear wheel arch liner in front area of wheel arch:

^ Remove plastic nuts and clips from front area of wheel arch liner.

^ Insert a hook tool (e.g. cotter pin puller) through one of the small slots (A, Figure 1) on outer edge of arch liner then pull arch liner away from

inner wheel arch.

Note:

Do not pry against fender lip when detaching front of wheel arch liner or damage to paint work may occur.

3. Clean seal seam (arrows, Figure 1) (use shop supply cleaner part no. A 001 986 71 7110).

4. Check wheel arch seam seal (arrows, Figure 1) in right rearwheel arch:

^ If seam seal (arrows, Figure 1) runs through completely procedure is complete.

Note:

Reassemble in reverse order.

^ If seam seal (arrows, Figure 1) does not run through proceed to Subject B.

B. Rework Seam Seal

1. Ensure faulty seam seal (arrows, Figure 1) is clean (use shop supply cleaner part no. A 001 986 71 71 10). Remove moisture using heat gun at

LOW heat setting.

2. Rework seam seal (arrows, Figure 1) with body sealant.

3. Reassemble in reverse order.
